After Raymond Burr retired as Perry Mason, he found himself in a wheelchair as Chief Robert Ironside as a Police chief put in a wheel chair by an assassin.  Ironside was way ahead of its time in story telling with a bit of an edge.  Still a favorite of my old shows.
